During National School Safety Week, officials across the U.S. work to educate students and staff about best safety practices for school buses - including safety tips during pick up, arrival, departure, and transport of students on buses. More than 25 million children in the U.S. are transported by bus every school day.

Deputy Superintendent Lloyd Jackson and Transportation Staff are working in all HSSD schools this week to ensure that every student has been updated on bus safety practices during a school presentation. Students are then also completing a live evacuation exercise where they exit a bus just as they would during a live emergency scenario. Bus Safety Tips included in school presentations are listed, here.

The HSSD makes student safety a priority in every situation. Bus safety presentations and exercises like those this week are another way that we ensure the safest campuses and transportation possible for our students. Students at Langston Magnet are scheduled for bus safety presentations and exercises today (10/23); Gardner Magnet and Junior Academy host presentations and exercises Wednesday (10/24); HSWCHS (9th-10th graders) and Oaklawn host presentations and exercises Thursday (10/25), HSWCHS (11th-12th graders), Intermediate School, and Park Magnet host presentations and exercises Friday (10/26).
